Repressed memory
You gotta love a site that tells as it is, even when listing the otherwise dry play-by-play (this is from the 1977 NLCS Game 3, top of the 2nd):
DODGERS 2ND:
Cey grounded out (third to first)
Garvey singled to center
Baker doubled to center [Garvey scored]; Garvey never touched plate on bang-bang play Wendelstedt said safe
Monday made an out to center
Yeager singled to right [Baker scored]
Hooton doubled to left [Yeager out at third (left to third to first)]
2 R, 4 H, 0 E, 1 LOB. Dodgers 2, Phillies 0.
So that would have been the second out, and then Monday's out would have been the 3rd out, precluding the Baker run from scoring. That was a 2-run blown call.
In the painful ninth, which I can't bring myself to post in full, the site adds:
Lopes singled to third [Mota scored]; ground ball off turf-seam hit Schmidt in knee and caromed to Bowa who apparently threw to 1B in time; Froemming said safe
So repressed a memory those plays were, I overlooked them when posting on bad calls. The mind can be powerful that way.
PS: Who is Elrod that we are wishing him (her?) to rest in peace?
